Does this only happen with multiple files or also with a single one ?
Can you also try in both the icon view mode and the detailed list view.
Does it happen in both, or only in one ?

It should be, and it always has been. How did you manage to
screw up your installation so badly ? :)
This isn't even configurable, the code creates trash/del/shred, always.

Hmmm... Did you use "edit toolbars" a lot ? This could be a unplanned 
side effect... Try moving out ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc, 
see if it changes anything.
