If I use the cursor keys to navigate in konqueror file manager icons get highlighted when selected in big and in small icon mode but not in detail, list or text mode. This wont be a problem - perhaps this isn't the problem at all.
But I can't use shorcuts, like (in my setup) F2 for properties / rename file. So I can't use these modes to rename a lot of files, although detailed view modes would be a lot better in this case :-)
