I like to use the 'Detailed List View' mode when working with files 
in a tree on the left, details on the right, two side-by-side panes configuration.

Sometimes, when using the up button on the toolbar, the display mode changes from 
'Detailed List View' to 'Icon View'. Using the back button returns me to the previous
directory and view mode.
