Once every 500ms actually (!!!) ... That's the default [in KDirWatch].
It also has support for FAM to avoid polling, but that's another story.
I wonder if another value shouldn't be used especially on slow-mounted dirs...
(and given that konqueror also notifies itself manually, so the renaming
of a local file doesn't even have to be discovered by the polling. This is
just here in case somebody uses the command line or any other app
that changes the contents of the directory). (This is a question to the
other developers).

Anyway. Is it the actual listing that takes a long time ?

If you click refresh, how long does it take to show the items ?
If that is slow, then it explains why the update takes a long time to happen.
