The way it works currently is : it's for the current directory unless you save the setting.
If you "save settings for this URL", it will remember it for that particular
URL [perhaps this should be automatic], and if you "save settings", it should become
the default (equivalent to configure-filemanager).

The basic problem is : if the user checks show dot files, does he want that
for the current dir or for all dirs... Don't see how to know that...

kfm, IIRC, kept it through navigation even is not saved. We could do that too.
And then "save settings" for saving that, or "save settings for this URL" 
if wanted for a particular dir ; that's how it worked in kfm.

I am open to any suggestions !
