While talking about selection, did you change the shift+arrow selection ?
IMO it should behave as it does in every texteditor:
cursor in line 1, press shift+down, cursor is in line 2, line 1 is selected.
Then shift+up, cursor goes to line 1, line 2 is not selected, line 1 is
deselected ( +1 -1 == 0 ).
