konqueror does it even better : it "automatically" detects the change,
in any view-mode, even if made outside of the file manager.

Not sure I understand that. Short view = details or mini icons ?
In details mode, konqueror has resizable columns of course...
+/- for nr of columns ? Didn't get that.

Seems konqueror already fixes both issues, closing the bug.
