khtml seem to render the following

<pre><h1>foo</h1>
<a href="foo">bar</a>
<a href="bar">foo</a>
</pre>

as (on one line)

foo bar foo

Shouldn't <pre> make \n mean literal \n's?

It makes lots of automated directory listings look ugly.

TIA
