Hello khtmlw hackers ? :) ----- Forwarded message from "Nikita V. Youshchenko" ----- Subject: Bug#718: KFM web browsing and 8bit display Date: Wed, 17 Feb 1999 12:39:33 +0300 (MSK) From: "Nikita V. Youshchenko" To: submit@bugs.kde.org Package: kfm Version: KDE 1.1 KFM eats the colormap on 8bit display and never returns colors. I think that it is a serious bug because kfm runs always on KDE desktop. When a web page with graphics is opened in a KFM window, KFM takes colors. But when the window is closed, COLORS ARE NOT RETURNED, making many apps to look ugly or work incorrectly. This BUG was there since KDE appeared, and I think it is a bad one. Many users know nothing about X colormaps and they only see wrong-colored apps on their desktops. This has been discussed several times in comp.windows.x.kde, and the common suggested there solution is to switch to 16 or 24 or 32bit display. But it is not acceptable e.g. on Sun workstations (e.g. due to the cost). I think KFM should at least return colors on window close. A much better solution is to have a parameter that limits KFM color usage (similar to netscape -ncols N) The workaround that I have to use now (killing and restarting KFM) seems to be a bad solution ... ----- End forwarded message ----- -- ____________________________________________________________________ | | | David FAURE | | E-mail : David.Faure@insa-lyon.fr, faure@kde.org | | http://www.insa-lyon.fr/People/AEDI/dfaure/index.html | |____________________________________________________________________|
