They do contribute back code. Look at the border-collapse code that I merged 
some weeks ago -- it had been forwarded by the Apple Developers.

Mostly it's only small fixes that are exchanged between the two projects. 
Then, whenever Apple releases a new tarball of their latest Webcore, we 
decide what features/fixes we want to merge.

Summarized: Yes, Apple is playing nice wrt KHTML. I don't know if it were the 
case if KHTML weren't licensed under the LGPL.
