I remeber I had similar problem but IIRC it was in June 2001, KDE 2.2alpha2 
time.
Dirk Mueller wrote (and applied) patch which fixed this problem.
May be, this problem is introduced again with latest QT?
(I am using Qt 2.3.0/KDE 2.2.2, as Qt 2.3.2 has some new bugs I decided to 
stay with *old good one*)

BTW: There was also Bug#19864: "Arial Black" vs. "Arial"
which is fixed as well.
