Subject: [Keepalived-devel] VMAC never goes away?

I have another question about VMAC support: I noticed that the virtual
adapter persists even when in BACKUP state. In other words an "ip addr"
or other list of network adapters (ifconfig, ip link, ...) shows the
virtual adapter with the VMAC present, but without an IP address attached.

Now I did some testing by connecting via SSH to the VIP before and after
it transitioned from the MASTER machine to the normally BACKUP machine.
I had been expecting to get the error showing an altered SSH key on the
server however it did not. This makes me wonder... with two computers
having the same MAC active at the same time does the traffic actually
transition?

So is leaving the virtual interface with the VMAC live in the BACKUP
state the desired behavior?

I think I just answered my own question: It would have to remain
persistent to get the VRRP advertisements? Assuming your not using
"vmac_xmit_base".

THX - Jon
