Hi,
doesn't work here:

> smtp_server smtp.serv.uos.de


Sep  8 17:29:13 allekto Keepalived_vrrp: Remote SMTP server
[127.0.0.1:25] connected.

And smtp.serv.uos.de does not resolve to 127.0.0.1 :-)
Using the ip address it works.
