Maybe we should first think about what actually should be on the page.

"Open Project", "New Project", and a link to some documentation is
definitely useful.

I think though that "Recent Projects" is not useful, because recent
projects should still be open in the session.

Things that would be more useful:
* Recently edited files
* If the projects are in VCS:
  * A link like "10 changed files", and when you click it, you get to
patch-review to see the differences
  * A link to VCS history, and something telling whether the local
checkouts are up-to-date
* Recent sessions
