A partial fix would be to just remove any suffix after the cursor. I created a
wish for that (bug 300453).

How would you like the second half of the word to be considered? By symmetry,
since the word has to start with the first half, maybe you want it to end on
the second half? Should any or both of the halves need a match?

It's not clear to me what you wish for. Maybe that is a reason it hasn't been
fixed yet.
