this doesn't look like an issue wiht too many files being processed, but rather
a bug in astyle. can you reproduce this issue? if so, run kdevelop in gdb,
trigger the crash, then go up to 

#13 0x00007f8316fa43f7 in AStylePlugin::formatSource (this=0x3589520, text=...,
url=..., mime=..., leftContext=..., rightContext=...) at
/home/marcel/tmp/kdevelop/formatters/astyle/astyle_plugin.cpp:101

and get the contents of url, leftContext and rightContext (pretty printers for
gdb might be required). Then attach that file or tell us where we can find it
and one could try to debug this issue.
