Milian - I'm actually using (didn't realise it was quite this old) a Debian
package from 2008-10, called php-doc. I think perhaps Debian doesn't package
php docs anymore - this is why I've kept this package around. It's definitely
the 'many small html' files variety of the PHP doc - they all live in a single
folder, as you describe (/usr/share/doc/php-doc/html)

I'm still using http:// to access my share/doc stuff, though - from my local
apache instance.

I just tried file://usr/share/doc/php-doc/html/ and the error came back:
File or folder does not exist: URL: smb://usr/share/doc/php-doc/html/manual

As I say, happy to close this - it actually makes perfect sense while I'm
net-connected, and while I'm roaming off-net the function lookups work just
fine (I can use another konq window for browsing around).
