Use the system palette to choose the text colour.

I understand the plugin is unmaintained, but here's a patch that fixes the
problem (turns out it was Veritas, not xtest that needed the fix).  I believe
Daniel Calviño Sánchez still commits fixes to veritas time permitting, so
perhaps he would commit this patch?
