One thing just occurred to me: You need to have the variable set _before_ starting \
kdevelop. KDevelop will try to get an actual value for the variable while parsing the \
project and if the variable resolves to nothing, because its not in the environment \
of KDevelop, then the file won't be found and hence the dialog pops up.

To make sure you've got the variable set, run kdevelop from a shell like this:
MYSRC="/srcpath/" kdevelop.
