Sorry for the long time since the initial post. I am running KDE 3.5.7. Maybe this \
is why I can't find a Switch Language entry in the Help menu on Kdevelop. I checked \
to make sure in KDE Control Center and it shows US English as the language.
I am indeed referring to the Application tab which is the leftmost tab on the bottom \
row of tabs. The output of the program that is being debugged shows gray in that \
tab. I tried switching the color scheme as you suggested, but it only seems to \
affect the Konsole view and some other tabs. For example I switched from my default \
of gray text on black background to black text on white background and the Konsole \
tab in Kdevelop now reflect thats change, but the application output is still gray on \
white.
Anything else I should try? I've update KDE as much as possible as well.

Which view are you talking about? If you're running KDE 3.5.8 please
change the language for kdevelop to US english (via Help->Switch
language) and look at the button for that view and tell us which it is.
The application tab got a change for the color and now uses the
standard KDE palette to create colors that adhere the system palette so that
when you have white-on-black color schemes you won't suddenly not see
anything in the app tab. I suggest to change your color scheme via kde
control center
