Right.

The dependency x.h: x.ui resides in the subproject Makefile, i.e. in src/Makefile.

It really looks as if something is broken, but I cannot figure out, what and where. The more I'm playing around with simple test cases, the more inconsistent and confusing are the results. Giving up :-(
