I was about to raise the same wish, then I found this one.

The current error dialog which is thrown up because the file is read-only could be enhanced to include a button which checks the file out from VCS and tries again.

This would cut down on required mouse clicks for the user as there's a high chance that they'll go off and checkout the file in response to the read-only error.
