I can not reproduce this bug using KDevelop 3.2.2, KDevelop 3.3beta and KDevelop 3.4. The code looks correct because the check for an invalid item is present.

Please, download 3.3beta source code and compile with debug information (./configure --enable-debug=full). This way we will know the line that caused the crash.
