I've experiencing the same problem, here is how I fix my projects when the problem occurs:

1. Open file <yourproject>.kdevses
2. Remove any lines between tag <DocsAndViews> and </DocAndViews>
3. Change Attributes NumberOfDocuments to 0
4. Save the file
