Another example: searching for a C character constant 'y' (include quotes) gives this grep command:
egrep -H -n -e ''\''\'\'''\''y'\''\'\'''\'''

Searching for just a single apostrophe, ', gives following:
egrep -H -n -e ''\''\'\'''\'''
