for a few years i sometimes checked kdevelop and found always the same problem, now i need to do real work with kdevelop it's still not gone.
in the search-tab click "update index" and it undoubtedly ends up with "running htmerge failed", no matter what i change and switch.
you may say "check the documentaion" -- but the documentation index does not know about htdig or htmerge.
the best hit was "Setting Up Text Search Indexes (... to be written ...)" ...
 and even if there where a paragraph ... after configuring search in the preferences i expect it to work! no fixing of files deep in .kde.
i've seen it with several fresh kdevelop-installation from scratch and expect usefull defaults not a configuration-file in a even more cryptic folder-structure.

btw: the error-message should be far more expressive -- just "failed" helps not much.
