------- Additional Comments From ron_sipherd cal berkeley edu 2004-11-22 23:24 \
------- I was able to resolve the problem; it turns out that despite the \
documentation I read, the "as-needed" argument is not supported in all sub-versions \
of ld 2.15. Specifically, I was using ld 2.15.0.1.1 dated 20040303. The packages I \
used in upgrading Kdevelop didn't mention that a newer version of ld or the binutils \
package was required. Upgrading ld to 2.15.92.0.2 has cured the problem.

My thanks to Amilcar do Carmo Lucas for his comments; I had just figured out the \
answer minutes before seeing them, but I'll keep it in mind for the future.

As for the response of Jens Dagerbo: in my tech support career I have frequently \
fielded requests for help from people who did their best to diagnose a problem and \
reached the limits of their abilities. If I could not help them, I forwarded the \
request on or advised the requestor where to ask. I knew that merely telling the \
requestor to go away was not helpful; I hope, Mr. Dagerbo, you will come to learn \
that some day.
