           Summary: ctags support is mystifying
           Product: kdevelop
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: FreeBSD Ports
        OS/Version: FreeBSD
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kdevelop-bugs kdevelop org
        ReportedBy: lonniev predictableresponse com

Version: 3.1.0 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: FreeBSD Ports
Compiler: gcc 3.3.3 FreeBSD
OS: FreeBSD

Seems like there is general confusion on how to get ctags support in Kdevelop \
(including the latest 3.1 release.) I read through the various related bugs with high \
hopes for a fix but encountered only crushing disappointment.

I detected the presence of both the ctags and ctags2 plugins for the project and \
turned off the older "ctags" plugin. Nevertheless, the ctags window consistently says \
"no CTAGS database found" and the Regenerate button appears to do nothing. (Yes, a \
version of ctags is installed on the system - from a FreeBSD port; exuberant ctags to \
be precise.)

Right-clicks on symbol names offer a GoTo Definition... submenu but this is populated \
with every known symbol in the file (or facetiously so it seems).

Is there a definitive HOWTO for getting kdevelop and ctags to work together?
