Maybe it's "valid", but that doesn't mean it's sane.. ;)

Seriously, I understand the problem he wants to solve and agree that the proposed \
solution perhaps is the "least effort" way of doing it, but I don't think it's the \
least bit intuitive. And doesn't the KDE file dialog history keep track of visited \
locations? Isn't it enough to use that? 

Btw, the FileSelector plugin's bookmarks are not global. If that is of any help.
