Ok, with the 'Pipe Through' filter action, I have already managed to do what I want, \
inelegantly:
kate --stdin --startanon && cat kmail-edited.txt
That opens kate with the source of the message I'm filtering.
I manually have to save to the file named 'kmail-edited.txt' and close kate (which is \
why I open a new kate session with the 'startanon' option).
To make this more elegant, I would of course want to avoid using a fixed file such as \
kmail-edited.txt, but rather a temporary file. I've played a bit with `mktemp`, but \
not managed to get things working. I didn't find an option to directly "save to \
stdout" with kate. I've tried using the vipe program \
<http://unix.stackexchange.com/a/125586/26980>, but without success.
