So far upgrading from 4.7.4 to 4.8 went smooth, except that it broke filtering 
again. Pre 4.7.4 (4.7.2 and 4.7.3 I believe) didn't trigger message filtering. 
It magically came back somewhere in the 4.7.4 Kubuntu updates, but after 
upgrading to 4.8 I now have to manually run the filters again.
