KMail(1) does already have a possible solution for this: Local folder 
subscription.

Unfortunately, KMail1 appears to store a blacklist of unsubscribed 
folders instead of a whitelist of subscribed folders. I am using this 
feature to exclude the Public Folders "provided" by our Exchange server, 
but I only needed to exclude 36 folders (and not hundreds or thousands).
