KMail(1) does already have a possible solution for this: Local folder
subscription.
Unfortunately, KMail1 appears to store a blacklist of unsubscribed
folders instead of a whitelist of subscribed folders. I am using this
feature to exclude the Public Folders "provided" by our Exchange server,
but I only needed to exclude 36 folders (and not hundreds or thousands).

Ingo
