On most distros (this can be changed by the packager), OpenOffice does not use 
the KDE print system.  Kmail does.

First thing I'd check is which driver is set as the cups default and used by 
OOo.  If it is different from the one set in the printing component of KDE 
System Settings, then change the printer driver (PPD) in the latter to the one 
used by the former.
