It was the problem. Had to delete the account, delete the resource, logout, 
login, recreate the account, enable groupware, create resource, reenable 
groupware because KMail didn't register the change at first... :-/
Maybe it should be possible to disable an account - or maybe it would've been 
enough to disable the resource as you wrote :-D Guess I wasn't thinking 
clearly.
Well, tested and I got my Contacts back.

Nothing from KDE-PIM except KNotes is running and it uses a local resource. 
The only widgets I have running are some different sysinfo widgets, Simple 
Weather Forecast, Simple Calculator, Analog Clock and Luna. I can't see why 
any of them should be accessing the resource.
Anyways I find that it is a usability bug that KMail has to be started in it's 
entirety to access the resource. This functionality should be factored out in 
some kinda daemon or service or whatever.
