as the OP mentioned usb-sticks etc. the problem might have been
those media beeing FAT format, in which case probably files got lost due
to incompatible file/directory names.

I recommend making a tarball:

tar cvfz kde.tar.gz ~/.kde

and then unpack that on the target machine.
