Contrary to what I=20 have been hoping for (and what I have been saying more than once) the=20 KDE PIM applications will not be ported to Akonadi in KDE 4.1. I hope=20 you are still looking forward to the first KDE 4 based release of KDE=20 PIM. Regards, Ingo =2D--------- Forwarded Message ---------- Subject: [Kde-pim] KDE PIM 4.1 Plans Date: Saturday 02 February 2008 =46rom: Cornelius Schumacher To: KDE PIM We had a discussion about the plans for KDE PIM in KDE 4.1 at the=20 Osnabrueck meeting and came up with the following: KDE 4.1 will be released in July, feature freeze is end of April. This=20 will include KDE PIM as the first KDE 4 based release of KDE PIM. We=20 plan to include the following features: =2D Stable release of all applications (including Kontact, KMail,=20 KOrganizer, KAddressbook, and all the other KDE PIM apps) ported to KDE 4 =2D Applications will still use the KResources framework =2D Merge of all the features of the enterprise branch =2D Initial release of the Windows and Mac OS ports of KDE PIM The plan for Akonadi is to make KDE PIM 4.1 the Akonadi Platform=20 release. That means that libakonadi and the required infrastructure is=20 moved to kdepimlibs, so that third-party applications and resources can=20 be developed based on Akonadi. This also will be the base for an incremental port of the existing KDE=20 PIM apps to Akonadi. The goal is to do this in trunk by refactoring the=20 existing applications, but keeping the apps stable. The KDE 4 version of Mailody already uses Akonadi. It's the first full=20 application which makes use of the new backend infrastructure. Mailody=20 is likely to be released once the Akonadi Platform is available in a=20 stable version. To make migration easier there also exists a bridge which makes Akonadi=20 data available through the KResources framework. It might be nice to=20 also implement an Akonadi agent who can talk to the old KResources. There are also first Akonadi resources and plasmoids in playground. We=20 hope that more of this will emerge as the platform gets more stable,=20 complete and available. The long-term mission of Akonadi is to provide a cross-platform=20 cross-desktop storage service for KDE PIM data. So it's not meant to be=20 limited to KDE. APIs for other environments or other programming=20 languages than C++ are very welcome. If there are questions or comments about the KDE PIM 4.1 plans, please=20 don't hesitate to speak up and discuss the plan. I personally think=20 this will be an exciting release, and by not trying to do the full port=20 to Akonadi at once, I'm pretty confident that we will get a stable and=20 usable version of Kontact with 4.1. =2D-=20 Cornelius Schumacher _______________________________________________ KDE PIM mailing list kde-pim@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-pim KDE PIM home page at http://pim.kde.org/ =2D------------------------------------------------------ --nextPart9941732.VN34croLoW Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: This is a digitally signed message part. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn0 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBHqjyDGnR+RTDgudgRAnNuAKCb6qEjRi0UsjEQxAO4k1NlRvNjGQCePxTs qL0cTU2Ty0cr0SN1TT/CjjI= =94o+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart9941732.VN34croLoW-- --===============0965479822== Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline _______________________________________________ KDE PIM users mailing list kdepim-users@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-users --===============0965479822==--
