Thanks very much, Werner.  I basically did that -- copied the various
folder into the new computer and it worked fine.  Whew!!

normally, the simplest way to migrate from one machine to another is to just
copy the whole ~/.kde over to the new computer.
any necessary upgrades to the config files (due to more recent kde version)
are then done automatically.
I usually just make a tarball out of the original .kde and then unpack it on
the new machine (without havin kde running at that point!).
