So I ran it using the software button on the T|X, and with kpilot,
kpilotDaemon, and kpalmdoc in /usr/local/bin. The usual happened: the T|X
linked, it went through the motions, std.ics was written without changes, and
the Daemon crashed shortly thereafter.
Here's the backtrace. It does not seem to differ much from before.
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1".

Here are the contents of kpilot.log (the debug output). This does not seem
very helpful, either.

Just to add interest to the proceedings, I did an upgrade on the Kubuntu
laptop, and now it won't sync at all. Kpilot was not included in the
upgrade, in case you were wondering, but kdepim-kde4 was (it was deleted, I
hope in favour of something else).
Is there anything else I might do?
Thanks once more for the help
