Almost always.  I know there have been a few times when the inbox did open, 
maybe one in fifty.

Pressing  F5 does not appear to to trigger a check in the inbox, though it 
does for the other folders.  None of these operation has ever resulted in in 
kmail hanging.

I want to emphasize that the problem is only with the Inbox.  I have never 
check the All Mail, but kmail handles the rest of my folders extremely well.  
Generally speaking, as they contain stuff that is archive and no longer in 
the Inbox, they are larger folders than the Inbox.
