Hi Ralph! First off, before you do _anything_ else...

1) killall kpilot kpilotDaemon
2) mkdir ~/palmBackup
3) cd ~/palmBackup/
4) pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB1 --fetch AddressDB --fetch DatebookDB --fetch
MemoDB --fetch ToDoDB (and put them somewhere SAFE!)
5) cp ~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics .
6) cp ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf .
7) cd ..
8) tar -zcvf palmBackup-$(date+'%Y%m%d_%H%M).tgz palmBackup

9) make sure you did everything above correctly and you have a solid backup.

To answer your question, the version of kpilot that opensuse 10.2 shipped with
has some major problems (data loss, etc.) with the version of pilot-link
released with 10.2. The first solution is to upgrade your KDE and kdepim and
kpilot packages to KDE 3.5.6.

Good luck!! =:)
