There is a Hotmail daemon called hotway that, when downloaded, becomes
hotwayd. Basically, when running on your box allows you to pull
Hotmail down through a pop3 gateway.

Written in 2004, it hasn't been updated on Sourceforge, and it stopped
working for me some time at the end of last year (presumably when the
settings were changed by Hotmail/MSN) but the OP might find it works
for him. See:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/hotwayd/

I don't know if there's any documentation provided. The original
documentation page no longer exists.

However....if it is ABSOLUTELY vital for you to have a Hotmail account,
I found this on the Thunderbird FAQ site at:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq#webmail

"Can I access my Yahoo!, Hotmail, Lycos (Europe), MailDotCom, Gmail,
and Libero WebMail account through Thunderbird? Yes. The Webmail
extension integrates web site based email accounts into Thunderbird,
allowing Thunderbird to download and to send emails using the web site.
Some services may require a subscription for this type of access.
Current information on the Webmail extension, supported services, and
other add-ons for web based email can be found at the WebMail
development site."

I don't actually use Thunderbird myself, so I don't know if this
information is outdated, but its worth a try.

The real answer is to migrate from a webmail based account to a proper
pop3 service. Look at:

http://www.uklinux.net

which offers a free account on dialup and a standard membership with a
low annual fee.
