I just did the openSUSE 10.2 migration, and rather than export or
copy'n'paste-all-files, which I had bad experience with, I choose "import"
from the newly installed kontact instead. Long, but ok, just define the
target from your former username' folder. It does mean you have to define a
new username each time you perform a new install. Some distros allow you to
define the target partition for /home to be the former one, without re-format
it, it will just add a new username folder - no need to re-partition again.

It will preserve your folderstructure in a more reliable way than the
copy'n'paste method.

SuSE will even propose a "recovery" mode if you define your target username on
an existing home/username, but I never tried - frightening if faulty!

As advised before, avoid vFat. Zipped, gZipped/Tared archives reloaded in your
mail folder can sometimes loose some mails: experienced.

Works for emails, didn't check contacts as I don't have 10.000 of them &
needed to re-vamp the old ones full of discarded addresses.

I'll be happy to give you the step-by-step details on the procedure if you are
still in the problem, but I think it's straightforward. & reliable.

Cheers

Jean-Philippe
