Well, 'ps aux' doesn't work, seems this is a SunOS, 'uname -a' reports:
SunOS <snip> 5.9 Generic_118558-30 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R Solaris

(hostname removed by me). However, the header of my inbox looks like this:

This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not
a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software.

ah, I read the manual, and tried 'ps -ef' and found stuff like:
"sh -c tail -54f $HOME/procmail/procmail.log".

I do not have any ".procmailrc" file in my homedir on this server,
however, I noticed that on another server at our university, I had a
".procmailrc" (that didn't do any magic). I removed that one, but that
didn't change anything - the problem persists.

Yes, this is the way I want it to be.

Yes, disconnected IMAP.

Thank you - finally I got an answer to this question :)

OK, I would like to do a test to confirm this. Maybe I could set up
IMAP on my home server. Is there a step by step how-to for newbies on
Fedora Core 6 that is recommended..?

But I can't really see how it can be solely related to the server. As
mentioned in a previous post in this thread - if I mark the emails
manually, the server doesn't mess up the marks. How would the server
know whether I mark messages manually, or if the KMail filter is
marking them...?

Thanks again for your response,

best regards
