But we _do_ have that now.  kontact will use an imap server if you
want.  Why would we build our _own_ IMAP server, rather than just
letting Kmail and other kontact apps use a third party one?

That appears to be the plan with akonadi - though I won't hold my
breath for koffice to ever amount to much.

It's needless redundancy - what could an internal IMAP server provide
that you can't already get with one that isn't part of kde-pim?
