Well, coming from a Mac environment, had the pleasure working with 
Panorama, a Ram based database... nothing was as fast on the mac,
until... sqlite ( did play with mysql and others.. but (client server things.. 
was over kill) so, setup a test 9.2 million records, 8 fields,
it took Pan 32 seconds to find 18600+ records... after some advise from
Dr. Richard Hipp, (hey learn something new) preformed the same test on the 
same Macintosh, well speed differences, was mind blowing ... 
less 2 seconds... as I recall.

Now that Sqlite3 has full text search... this would be a great
asset to kmail and KDE environment.
