Hit the hotsync button.
Wait for a while.
Take a look in /var/log/messages afterwards.

That's the "it's late and I'm tired" response. Search this list 
[ http://lists.kde.org/?l=kdepim-users&r=1&w=2 ] for messages about KPilot, 
there's a lot of fairly standard answers about how to troubleshoot this. And, 
as Art says, it's high time we had this as a FAQ.
