Overkill.  Just set up kmail to retrieve incoming mail accounts to
different folders.  I have been using Thunderbird to do this without a
problem.  I was just able to start seriously looking at kmail today, but
I am sure that by using identities, you can do it there, too.

It is, but you will be using resources to run both gnome and KDE
simultaneously. Furthermore, things will happen, like http links in
kmail messages will launch konqueror instead of nautilus.
