I suspect that I may not have quite the same problem (up-to-date 3.4 branch 
kmail), but my kmail hangs for 10 - 20 seconds per email when deleting, 
sending or receiving mails. It started happening recently for no apparent 
reason, then went OK after installing kdebase 3.4.2, and has since reverted 
to hanging again. It doesn't affect the rest of the system. It makes using it 
extremely time consuming and unwieldy.
