As Georg already mentioned subfolders are stored in hidden directories 
(i.e. their name begins with a dot), i.e. the subfolders of the folder 
"example" are in a directory with name ".example.directory". You can 
make hidden files visible in Konqueror with View->Show Hidden Files.
