The message "Couldn't open..." is from the conduit itself, and means that
the vcal file the conduit is configured to use .. couldn't be opened.
Check the confiuguration of the vcal conduit. Settings->Configure
Conduits.

The documentation is spectacularly wrong and misleading in every aspect
except for the warning at the beginning saying that it is hopelessly
outdated.
